Another great week of soccer action – a brief report on last week’s games and those upcoming. All scores to date are summarized in the Results ’19 folder.
Reserve
The Reserve team continues to play at a high level, and fought back against some strong competition this past week. Regarding the team’s Wednesday (9/25) game vs. Lebanon, the ever the ever loquacious Coach Alloway’s noted that “The Reserves returned to the friendly confines of Dresden Fields on Wednesday and put on an impressive display against rivals Lebanon winning in convincing fashion 5-0. Hanover looked threatening right from the outset, but Lebanon was equal to the task for the first 20 minutes. Ailia Hedgepath started the onslaught, when she scored from her defensive midfield spot, booting a rocket shot into the upper left hand corner of the net from 30 yards away. A short time later, Rosa Gomez beat the keeper to double the score. Late in the half, Gomez sent a ball from the left hand corner across the six yard box. A determined River Miles made an amazing 25 yard run to get on the end of it giving the team a comfortable 3-0 lead at the half. Gomez and Miles each scored again in the second half, essentially putting the game out of reach. It was at this point that coach Redpath put on the brakes and switched things around, giving players an opportunity to play different positions. Hanover dominated the midfield thanks in large part to the efforts of Iris Levey(2 assists), MacKenzie Lui(1 assist), Ann Rightmere and tri-captain Hailey Stewart. Freshman Nina Sablan also turned in an excellent shift at striker and in the midfield. When called upon the defense was up to the task with Jordan Ray(1 assist) Rose Luttmer (2 assists), Enna Park, Freddie Tagupa, Bella Johnson and Whitney Ladeau completely shutting down the Lebanon offense. Keeper Lyra Bornholt-Collins recorded her third clean sheet of the year.
